The tradition and technique of Satsuma ware have been inherited for over 400 years as a purveyor to the Shimazu family. The 15th Chin Jukan, who symbolizes it, directly planned this unique and special hospitality experience. Satsuma ware: Black Satsuma ware was called “kuromon”, which was popular among the common people, while white Satsuma ware was called “shiromon”, which pursued elegance and sophisticated techniques and was highly valued as furnishings of the Shimazu Domain and gifts to the Shogun family. The 15th Chin Jukan will introduce you to Satsuma ware, which was a purveyor to and loved by the Shimazu family. You will also experience painting under the guidance of craftsmen at the Chin Jukan Kiln, which is the most prestigious kiln, hospitality with special tea service in the tea room that is open on a special day once a year, and hospitality with special meals in the specially opened “okariya” room where Shimazu family's lords and Atsuhime have stayed.
