Located in the Rokko mountain range, about an hour away by car from the city center, Maya Mountain is a scenic spot where virgin forests still remain. Along with stunning views and rich nature, it offers a variety of hiking trails beloved by the people of Kobe. Enjoy a hike of about an hour and a half with an expert guide and take your time to observe the seasonal flora. After lunch at the mountain-top café, you can visit Tenjoji Temple, the only temple in Japan dedicated to Maya, the mother of Buddha, where you can experience guided meditation and a brief session of Zen meditation in the main hall. You can also ride the ropeway and cable car, making this excursion a fun and easy way to explore the Rokko mountain range.
