Tsukuba

Tsukuba City is rich in nature and is home to Mt. Tsukuba, which has been designated a quasi-national park. With approximately 150 research institutes and 19,000 researchers conducting cutting-edge research activities, Tsukuba is Japan's largest science city and is also a city with a strong international character, with many foreigners from over 145 countries residing there. Tsukuba has served as the stage for many international conferences, including the G20 Ibaraki-Tsukuba Ministerial Meeting on Trade and Digital Economy in June 2019. Tsukuba International Congress Center and other convention facilities in the city are well equipped to host international conferences, conventions, corporate training and other special events. Tsukuba is also perfectly positioned for outstanding access, taking only 45 minutes from Tokyo on the Tsukuba Express (TX) rapid train and 55 minutes from Narita International Airport by highway express bus.

Japanese Culture Experience: Tea Ceremony

A “Science Tour” of the many research facilities in Tsukuba is an optimal after-convention attraction. TTCA provides information about flower arrangement, tea ceremony, kimono dressing, calligraphy writing, and other hands-on Japanese culture experiences for persons accompanying international conference participants. Japanese taiko drum and koto performances, as well as street hawker performances for banquets and the like, can also be arranged.
