Kagoshima

Making up the tip of Kyushu and easily accessible from most major cities in Japan and Asia, Kagoshima is a vibrant city that blends traditional culture, tropical vibes, and contemporary elements. Blessed with a mild climate, palm tree-lined streets, lush forests, natural hot springs, and the majestic active volcano Sakurajima, Kagoshima is a natural paradise that has long served as a gateway for international exchange between Japan and the world. The former base of one of Japan's most influential clans, the Shimazu family, Kagoshima is also a historical city immersed in culture that played an essential role in the modernization of Japan. • A 13,000 Year Journey: Walking Guided Tour with “Dr. Volcano” to Explore Sakurajima in Depth
A doctor of volcanology and geology will take you to various locations upon request, while providing detailed and easy-to-understand explanations about the active volcano Sakurajima and other volcanoes. We offer special walking tours where you can learn how the people of Kagoshima coexist and live in harmony with this active volcano and feel the pulse of nature up close.

  • Sengan-en – Japanese Armor Wearing Experience
In the Sengan-en Garden, the historic garden of the Shimazu family, visitors can don a magnificent suit of armor and transform into a samurai in body and soul. Among others, you can try on authentic replicas of the armors once worn by the fierce warlord Shimazu Yoshihiro, known for breaking through the enemy lines at the Battle of Sekigahara (1600), and Shimazu Toyohisa, who fought alongside Yoshihiro on the battlefield.
