Hakone

Hakone

One of the most famous onsen (hot spring) resorts in Japan, Hakone hosts over 20 million visitors per year. Its location in the center of Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park offers prime spots for viewing Mt. Fuji, a World Heritage site. Hakone is brimming with a variety of appealing options, including abundant hot springs, art museums that tastefully blend into the beautiful nature in their surroundings, over 100 Japanese-style inns and hotels, an eclectic mix of means of transportation, traditional handicrafts, and an old highway that still appears as it did during the Edo period (1603-1868). With incredibly easy access to Tokyo and an abundance of post-event excursions available, Hakone is an ideal location for conventions and other events.

Yosegi-zaiku is characterized by distinctive, geometric patterns created by combining varying natural colors of various woods. The Hatajuku area of Hakone is home to many practitioners of yosegi-zaiku, and there are many facilities and shops demonstrating the craft as well as exhibiting and selling the finished products. In addition, visitors can try their hand at making coasters and other small crafts. Various other hands-on experience programs are also available in Hakone, including kimono dressing, matcha green tea and glassblowing.
