Nestled in a basin with the majestic Azuma Mountain Range to the west and the rolling Abukuma Highlands to the east, Fukushima City is the capital and the political, economic, and cultural center of Fukushima Prefecture. Following the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011 and the accident at TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, the city is currently in the process of recovering from a disaster unlike any other in the world, with the support of the international community. In 2021, the baseball and softball events of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games were held at the Fukushima Azuma Baseball Stadium, located in the city and we leverage the Olympic legacy to support MICE organizers. In cooperation with the coastal region of Fukushima Prefecture known as Hamadori, we also offer Hope Tourism, a program to experience and learn about the recovery from the unprecedented 2011 catastrophe. Fukushima City boasts Fukushima's three famous hot springs: Iizaka Onsen, with Japan's oldest wooden bathhouse, Tsuchiyu Onsen, known as the home of Kokeshi dolls, and Takayu Onsen, a secluded hot spring with cloudy sulfur springs. The city is renowned as a “Fruit Kingdom” where visitors can enjoy lush fruits all year round, including its famous peaches, and is also easily accessible, being only 90 minutes from Tokyo.
