Pre-/Post-Convention Programs

Chagu Chagu Umako horses

Wanko-soba

  • Chagu Chagu Umako horses
The Chagu Chagu Umako horse festival is held every June, when around 100 brightly bedecked horses march from Onikoshi-sozen-jinja Shrine in Takizawa to Morioka-hachimangu Shrine in Morioka. Commemorative photos with vividly decorated horses can be taten.
  • Wanko-soba (all-you-can-eat soba) contests
Nothing says “Morioka” more than wanko-soba (all-you-can-eat soba), so why not organize a mini wanko-soba contest at your convention’s social gathering? Having representatives from various areas compete in your contest will elevate the mood among participants in your event as well as crowds who come to cheer. Said to have started as a gesture of hospitality at large banquets, this tradition of eating to one’s heart’s content is a quintessential Morioka attraction.
