Located in the center of Japan and the western part of Aichi Prefecture, Nagoya was created in 1610 when Tokugawa Ieyasu (1543-1616), the first Tokugawa shogun, relocated the entire city of Kiyosu. The city has long functioned as a hub of manufacturing, and is still the heart of traditional industries such as ceramics and weaving, as well as of the automotive, aerospace, robotics and other advanced industries. The city also boasts distinct historical and cultural traditions, from its castle and museums that still emanate the feel of samurai culture to the unique cuisine of Nagoya-meshi.
