SUPPORT MEASURES

• Subsidy Programs
[For conventions:]
(a) Requirements and details
(i) The venue must be within Gifu city limits, and draw at least 100 participants (actual headcount)
(ii) The event must draw participants from at least 4 prefectures (including Gifu Prefecture)
(b) For international conferences
(i) Up to 600,000 yen according to the number of participants
(ii) A special supplement of up to 1 million yen for foreign participants (10,000 yen/foreign participant)
(c) For national conferences
(i) 50,000-600,000 yen for national conferences (participants from at least 10 prefectures)
(ii) 50,000-300,000 yen for conferences of other scales (participants from 4-9 prefectures) that last at least 2 days
(d) Off-season supplements
(i) 1.5 times the basic subsidy for conventions held from December to February (2 times for conventions that draw at least 1,000 people)
[For small-scale international conferences:]
(a) Requirements and details
(i) The venue must be within Gifu city limits, last at least 2 days, and draw 20-99 participants (actual headcount)
(ii) Small-scale international conferences that draw participants from at least 2 countries (including Japan), with at least 10 foreign nonresidents of Japan accounting for at least 30% of total attendance
[For sports tournaments:]
(a) Requirements and details
(i) The venue must be within Gifu city limits, and draw at least 100 participants (actual headcount, excluding spectators)
(ii) The event must draw participants from at least 4 prefectures (including Gifu Prefecture)
(iii) The rotation of host cities for the event must not include Gifu City
(b) Details
(i) 50,000-600,000 yen for events that draw participants from at least 8 prefectures
(ii) 50,000-300,000 yen for events that draw participants from 4-7 prefectures and last at least 2 days
(c) Off-season supplements
(i) 1.5 times the basic subsidy for sports tournaments held from December to February (2 times for tournaments that draw at least 1,000 people)
• Interest-free loan program
(a) Eligibility
(i) The venue must be within Gifu city limits, and draw at least 100 participants (actual headcount)
(ii) Preparations must be made at least 3 months in advance
(iii) The event must draw participants from at least 4 prefectures (including Gifu Prefecture)
(b) Details for international/national conferences
(i) 100,000-1 million yen for up to 10% of the total budget
(ii) Loans can be granted as early as 3 years before the event
(iii) Loans must be fully repaid within 1 month of the end of the event
(iv) Two joint guarantors required

Pre-/Post-Convention Programs

Ryurei-style Japanese tea ceremony at Kashoken, featuring matcha green tea

Hands-on experience with Japanese culture (matcha green tea) at a temple

  • Enjoy matcha green tea at a Ryurei-style Japanese tea ceremony at the Kashoken teahouse in Gifu Park
    Gifu Park is located at the foot of Mt. Kinkazan, and contains Kashoken, a teahouse where Ryurei-style Japanese tea ceremony is practiced. Visitors can enjoy an experience with matcha green tea as well as seasonal natural scenery.
  • Hands-on experiences with Japanese culture at an ancient Japanese temple and traditional house
    Gokuraku-ji Temple and Utsuboya, a 108-year-old machiya (traditional tradesman’s house), host Japanese tea ceremony, calligraphy writing, flower arrangement, kimono dressing and other hands-on experiences that expose visitors to the essence of Japanese culture. Gokuraku-ji Temple also offers hands-on experiences with pilgrims’ lodgings and vegetarian Buddhist cuisine. Visitors are sure to enjoy these programs that offer glimpses of ancient life and the origins of the spirit of Japanese people. (Reservations required)
