2026.05.20 ICCA releases 2025 country and city rankings - Japan moves up to 6th globally -

The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) has released the GlobeWatch 2025 ICCA Country and City Rankings Report.

According to the report, the total number of international and regional association meetings held worldwide in 2025 reached 12,438, marking a 12% increase from 2024. The number of meetings held in Japan increased by 15%, from 428 in 2024 to 491 in 2025, and Japan climbed to 6th in the global country rankings, up from 7th in 2024.

In the Asia-Pacific region, Japan has continued to demonstrate strong competitiveness within the region, ranking first for four consecutive years since 2022, significantly surpassing other countries, including China (326 meetings), the Republic of Korea (286 meetings), and Australia (241 meetings).

Furthermore, in the Asia-Pacific city rankings for destinations hosting five or more international meetings, 19 Japanese cities were ranked among the top 85. Compared to 2024, the number of meetings increased not only in major metropolitan areas such as Tokyo, Osaka, and Yokohama, but also in regional cities including Matsue, Nara, Kagoshima, Kumamoto, and Takamatsu. In addition, more than 70 Japanese cities hosted at least one international meeting in 2025, a significantly larger number than the previous year.
