2021.02.26 Successful Bid – IAP2026: XXXVI International Congress of the International Academy of Pathology, Fukuoka, Japan!

The presentations to decide the host city for the XXXVI International Congress of the International Academy of Pathology (IAP2026) were originally planned to be held during IAP2020 in Glasgow, Scotland in September 2020. Instead, presentations were conducted virtually during the online IAP2020 in December. The Japanese Division of the International Academy of Pathology (JDIAP)’s bid to host IAP2026 in Fukuoka was successful!

This was JDIAP’s third campaign, following its endeavors to invite IAP2022 (which went to Sydney, Australia) and IAP2024 (to be held in Cancun, Mexico). On the road to this successful bid for IAP2026, led by Dr. Osamu Matsubara (Vice President Asia, IAP Central and Japan Conference Ambassador for JNTO), JDIAP put emphasis on lobbying activities, with extensive publicizing to the other divisions of IAP and its members. The JDIAP team issued several editions of the “Letter from Fukuoka,” introducing the vibrant city of Fukuoka as the most suitable candidate city for IAP2026.

The Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), in collaboration with the Fukuoka Convention and Visitors Bureau (FCVB), played an important part in this successful bid by assisting the JDIAP during the four years of the bidding process, supporting the Japan Conference Ambassadors Dr. Osamu Matsubara and Dr. Robert Osamura. We are delighted that Dr. Osamura was officially appointed as the President of IAP at IAP2020, to serve for two years until November 2022.

Having experienced the COVID-19 pandemic, we all know how valuable it will be to finally meet in person, exchanging ideas and knowledge during the international congresses. We will be preparing for IAP2026 to ensure the safety and security of all those traveling to Fukuoka. We look forward to welcoming some 2,500 attendees over 50 countries to Fukuoka, Japan, in October 2026!
