Held between February 24th and March 1st, the hosted buyers program “Meet Japan” successfully connected 18 association executives, PCOs and journalists worldwide with diverse Japanese destinations.
The program has been held annually by the Japan Convention Bureau, and this year featured site inspections of Tsukuba, Sendai, Yokohama, Matsue, Toyama, Kanazawa, Takamatsu and Okayama. The tours were divided in four routes, each of which covered event venues, hotels and local tourist attractions: including hands-on experiences such as traditional local craft workshops and other inspiration for planning unique events.
Hosted buyers also had the opportunity to attend the International MICE Expo (IME2019) held at Tokyo International Forum on February 28th. The event is Japan’s only business matching event focused on connecting event organizers with regional convention bureaus and suppliers.
The farewell party took place in the historical Tokyo Kaikan, a notable landmark of the city since 1920, recently reopened after renovations. Located in the Marunouchi area, Tokyo Kaikan faces the moat of the Imperial Palace, and is conveniently located within walking distance from Tokyo Station.
As part of the team of Kenes International, Joanne Katz is familiar with the benefits of hosting conferences in Japanese big hubs like Kyoto, Osaka and Tokyo. Yet, in Meet Japan she discovered another side to Japan. She told us, “What inspires me the most is knowing there are many options for all different size of conferences. And also the fact that Japan is developing and growing all the time.”
The organizer of Velo-city conference, Marcio Deslandes, found the program “very well organized, and very useful. I was hoping to go back with one city in mind, and I am coming back with four cities in mind”.
