Kobe Portpia Hotel to enhance conference services

The Kobe Portopia Hotel is developing in-house PCO capabilities, as evidenced by the recent 2012 Clinical Rheumatology Conference attended by 1,300 delegates on November 23 and 24. Prior to the event, Portopia teams provided planning, scripting, and reservation of special equipment. On-site, hotel staff managed the usual banquet functions in addition to registration desks, stage production, and equipment operation (sound, lighting, and visuals—including technical direction). The Convention Support Staff or CSS (the hotel's own certified personnel for meeting operations, currently 24 members) played a critical role as PCO staff. Beyond on-site operations, core CSS members formed a project team and were responsible for pre-conference tasks such as making name tags, sending abstracts, setting up registration desks, and running training sessions for regular hotel staff, who went all out to make the conference successful. The project team also worked together to create a conference newsletter, which featured special discounts for participants and local tourism information.
